FANS ARE being asked if they want to drop the Hawks suffix from Hunslet Rugby League Club’s name.

The club was renamed at the start of the summer era, but a proposal has been made to return to the traditional Hunslet RLFC. Now playing in Kingstone Press League One, Hunslet are one of the most famous names in the sport and won all four cups in the 1907-08 season.

General manager Martin Flynn is urging fans to make their opinion known.

In a message to supporters, Flynn said: “Having spoken to a number of stakeholders, there is a growing interest in dropping the name ‘Hawks’, renaming the club as ‘Hunslet RLFC’ and re-establishing the club’s core values of hard work, loyalty, honesty, trust and respect.

“I would like to gauge your opinion, as loyal supporters of the club, before deciding on the name as we prepare to continue to develop our great club for 2017 and beyond.”

Flynn added: “If the outcome of the initial vote is in favour of a rebrand, then further supporter consultation will take place in terms of the design of the club crest and playing kits for 2017.”

Voting forms will be available when Hunslet take on Doncaster in the League One Super-8s at South Leeds Stadium tomorrow.

The survey, which is also taking place online, will close at 5pm on Friday, August 12.
