HUNSLET HAWKS have re-signed their former player Ayden Faal from Batley Bulldogs on a one-year contract.
Faal, 28, has also played for Leeds Rhinos academy and Dewsbury Rams and Hawks director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “It shows we are creating the right environment at the club when players are happy to return.
“He’s had his injury problems and is just recovering from a shoulder reconstruction.
“But his rehabilitation is ahead of schedule and he’s looking forward to showing us what we all know he can do.”
Williams added: “He is a major signing for the club as we prepare for life in Championship 1 and he will provide us with some strike out wide.”
Meanwhile, full-back Jimmy Watson swept the board of Hawks’ annual awards, being named player of the season, picking up the supporters’ and players’ player honours and the Gavin Stewart award, which is voted for by fans who have travelled on the away supporters’ coach.
Hooker Jack Lee’s 13 touchdowns earned him the top try scorer accolade. Liam Mackay was named top tackler and the most improved player award went to Aaron Lyons, who made 24 appearances, scoring one try.
A special award for reaching 100 Hunslet appearances was handed to James Houston, Audrey Groves and Diane Allanson received the club person of the year honour and James Houston picked up the Joan and Ronnie Fletcher award.
Half-back Danny Grimshaw, meanwhile, has left Hunslet to sign for Oldham.
Hawks are looking for volunteers to join a fans’ panel to improve communication between supporters and the club. Anyone interested should email email@example.com.
