Hull KR retire legend Roger Millward's No 6 shirt

The rugby league Hall of Famer and most successful captain and coach in Rovers history passed away earlier this week at the age of 68, sparking a flurry of tributes from across the sport.

A former Great Britain and England international who scored a record 207 tries for the Robins during an illustrious career having joined from hometown Castleford, Millward was synonymous with the club’s No.6 shirt and the jersey will now be retired indefinitely in his honour.

The East Yorkshire club has worked closely with the RFL to do so and can confirm that current captain Terry Campese will now take squad number 32 for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Millward’s family will be presented with the shirt on the field ahead of the game against Widnes Vikings at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Sunday, May 15.

A contribution from every ticket sold for that game will be donated to charity, which Millward’s wife Carol and close family will choose.

During his career with the Robins, he made 406 appearance, scoring 207 tries and kicking 607 goals.

Millward led the club to five trophies as captain, the most famous of which was the 1980 Challenge Cup final defeat of arch-rivals Hull just before his retirement, and a further six during his 11 seasons as coach.

He was awarded the MBE for his services to rugby league in 1983 and inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2000.
