The 31-28 Co-op Championship victory over Batley Bulldogs two days ago extended Rovers’ winning run in all competitions to 10 games.

Rovers face Halifax in Blackpool in a clash of the Championship’s top two in five days’ time and Powell said: “We’re not far off.

“We played some good stuff (against Batley). We gave a few things away, which was disappointing, but you have got to expect that at times you won’t get it all your own way.

“We had to work hard, we gave away a lot of penalties and we put ourselves under pressure, but it was about winning and we managed to do that.

“Overall, I think we are in pretty good shape.”

Powell said his side avoided any major injuries, though Matty Dale (calf), pictured and James Lockwood (ankle) suffered “knocks”.
