TOMORROW’S TRIP to Doncaster (2pm) is all about building momentum for Featherstone Rovers.

Rovers are top of the Kingstone Press Championship Shield table and already guaranteed a semi-final spot.

They recorded their first win under new boss Jon Sharp with a 42-30 success against Whitehaven last week and he said the big thing now is to build on that.

Rovers had lost 29-0 at home to the Cumbrians just two weeks earlier and Sharp reckons they will go a long way in the Shield competition if they can back-up that improvement in attitude and performance.

“It’s all about building a bit of momentum and trying to get some consistency,” Sharp said.

“We need to get some consistency within games, never mind from one game to the next. Last week at 42-6 we had played fantastically well, but then we knocked off.

“Our challenge this week is being consistent for the full 80 minutes, as well as respecting the opposition.

“That is really important to us.”

Doncaster are bottom of the table and have won just once this year. But Sharp stressed: “The way we are going about things at the moment, it is very much about us.

“We are trying to get an 80-minute performance, play some good stuff and defend better than we have been doing.”
