Former Sheffield Eagles forwards Michael Knowles – who began his career at Castleford Tigers – and Keal Carlile have joined Rovers along with ex-Wakefield and Leeds prop Richard Moore and centre/winger Chris Ulugia, who spent 2016 at Batley Bulldogs on loan from Bradford Bulls.

Luke Briscoe – who was on loan from Leeds Rhinos this year – has now signed a permanent contract, but Sharp said: “I think we are still light of a couple of players.

“That was the big challenge last season. We were short of numbers and we struggled, certainly in mid-season when we picked up a lot of injuries.

“We went into the year with a squad of 22 because of finances and one thing and another.

“I would hope to get up to 24 by the start of the year, but we are still working on things.”

Sharp said 10 of his 2016 squad have moved on.

Jack Ormondroyd has joined Leeds Rhinos, Steve Snitch has retired, Andy Ellis, Tim Spears and Will Milner have been released and Jamie Cording has not been offered a new deal as he recovers from a knee operation. Danny Craven has left the club after a season on loan from Widnes Vikings, Michael Channing has joined London Broncos, Robbie Ward is now at Dewsbury Rams and Jack Coventry is set to stay at Hunslet after a successful loan spell.
