PERFORMANCE will be paramount for Featherstone Rovers when they cross swords with The Army in the Carnegie Challenge Cup third round tie at Big Fellas Stadium.
Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Widnes Vikings last Saturday and coach Daryl Powell said: “We need to get back on track and play well this week.”
Powell will rest loose-forward Stuart Dickens and second-row Matty Dale, but has named a strong squad and insists Rovers can’t afford to take tomorrow’s visitors lightly.
“The Challenge Cup is important,” Powell, stressed.
“We don’t want to disrespect the competition.
“We are going to go with a strong team and hopefully put in a really strong performance.
“We played them a couple of years back and they will be a tough, physical team.
“We need to make sure we start the game well and don’t give them any opportunities.
“We need to apply our game to them and make life difficult for them – make it a really quick game.”
Tom Hemingway is unavailable due to an injury suffered away from the club.
Fringe players Matty Johnson, David Nurse and Cayci Pearson could all feature.
Powell said: “I will have to manage people properly, because we have an important game against Leigh in the league next week.”
Prices tomorrow are £10 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 children, with season ticket holders admitted free.
The game has been dedicated to former Rovers player Ian Tonks’ daughter Megan, who died recently.
Half the proceeds from the Golden Gamble will be donated to the cystic fibrosis charity.
