Rams and Bulldogs miss out on glamour showdown

Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs were unable to earn a Championship Shield final against one-another as they both lost their semi-finals over the weekend.

Garry Lo grabbed two tries as Sheffield Eagles beat Batley Bulldogs 28-26 in their semi-final.

Lo – whose impressive form has earned a two-year deal with Super League side Castleford Tigers – crossed twice, while Menzie Yere, Ben Blackmore and Kyle Trout bagged one each.

Jack Owens booted four goals, and that proved the difference, with his opposite number, Pat Walker, only kicking three.

Batley’s tries came from James Harrison (2), Dane Manning, Joe Chandler and Dominic Brambani.

Victory sets up a final showdown with Toulouse, who beat Dewsbury Rams 36-22 on Saturday.

The French side raced into a 24-0 interval lead and held off the Rams in the second half, as Sykes ran in four tries, tagging on three goals.

Toulouse’s tries came from Canet, Jouffret (2), Curran, Ford and Boyer, Kheirallah adding six goals.

Widnes secured their Super League status and condemned Catalans Dragons to a place in the dreaded Million-Pound Game with a nail-biting 12-10 victory in the south of France.

The Vikings finished bottom of Super League at the end of the regular season but rescued their top-flight status with a first-ever victory in Perpignan.

It means the French club must play Leigh in a decider at Leigh Sports Village next Saturday in the Million Pound Game.
