DEWSBURY RAMS powered to victory and condemned Barrow to relegation from the Championship.

Three tries in each half were enough for the hosts against a spirited Barrow side who never gave up despite their precarious position.

Rams took the lead through forward Ewan Dowes’ try and extended it when Anthony Thackeray threw a wide ball to Kieran Hyde who stepped through a gaping hole before racing 20 metres to score. Tom Hemingway converted. Nathan Mossop pulled a try back, but Rams restored their 12-point advantage when Hyde found Rob Spicer hitting a great line and he broke through to score.

In the 34th minute, Barrow grabbed their second try when Craig Briscoe came with an angled run and proved too powerful for the Rams defence.

However, the hosts quickly put the result beyond doubt. In the 49th minute, Ben Hellewell collected a Hyde grubber kick before stepping round the full-back to score and just five minutes later, the Rams scored again when Gallagher’s offload allowed Hyde to race in.

Barrow scored the try of the game in the 73rd minute when a 90-metre effort from a kick return was finished by Dalton Grant, but Dowes’ second try converted by Hyde sealed it.
