utility back Paul Sykes is Glenn Morrison’s latest signing for the Dewsbury Rams ahead of the 2016 season.

Sykes, 34, who can operate at centre, full-back or half-back, brings a wealth of experience to the club following more that 15 years playing at Super League level. The former Thornhill Trojans amateur player was given his first Super League opportunity by Bradford Bulls and made 10 appearances for the club before going on to play more than 100 times for Harlequins.

Sykes then returned to the Bulls, where he would play alongside Rams boss Morrison in latter seasons, before the pair made the switch to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

A spell with Featherstone Rovers followed in 2015, with whom Sykes smashed through the 1,500 points barrier.

“I’m really pleased to sign for my hometown club,” said Sykes, upon his return to Dewsbury.

“I spoke to Glenn about joining. He’s someone I’ve known for a while from our time together at Bradford and Wakefield.

“We discussed my plans and in the end I was delighted to be able to join Dewsbury.”

Elsewhere, Hunslet Hawks have signed Austin Bell from the York City Knights on a one -year contract.

Twenty-four-year-old Bell, is a front rower who joined the Knights in 2012 from Hull FC.

Hawks director of rugby Darren Williams said: “We’re thrilled to announce Austin as our first new signing for 2016. He’s a very direct runner of the ball and has progressed rapidly over the previous two seasons and we’ve kept an eye on his improvement since he came under our radar.”
