Gilmour, 26, has been signed to strengthen a Wildcats squad which has a host of players - including Dean Collis, Reece Lyne, Jimmy Keinhorst and Ali Lauitiiti - on the casualty list.

Wildcats have lost forward Jacob Fairbank, who completed his loan spell from Huddersfield Giants after limping off early in the defeat to Warrington Wolves on Sunday.

Coach Richard Agar also faces the prospect of being without second-row Chris Annakin, who faces the RFL disciplinary panel tonight to answer a grade D charge of a dangerous throw on Warrington’s Roy Asotasi.

Gilmour has not played a competitive game for 12 months due to a succession of injuries, but has 246 Super League appearances under his belt with Wigan Warriors, Bradford Bulls, St Helens, Huddersfield Giants and Castleford.

He will train with the Wildcats for the first time on Wednesday and Agar said: “We’re pleased to get Lee in at a time when we’ve picked up a number of injuries.

“He’s a player with a lot of big game experience and I know he’s bursting to play at the moment so will be an asset for us.”
