Snitch may give Castleford Tigers a huge lift
Steve Snitch.
Coach Ian Millward is hopeful that Steve Snitch will be available for Castleford Tigers’ home Stobart Super League clash with Bradford Bulls on Sunday.
Snitch has not played since damaging a shoulder in the pre-season win over Huddersfield Giants on January 13.
The former Huddersfield and Wakefield forward sat out last Saturday’s opening 24-10 victory at Salford City Reds, alongside fellow casualties Paul Jackson, Nick Youngquest, Craig Huby and Grant Millington.
“He might be available this week, which would be great,” said Millward. “But that would be it, the others are still long term.”
Millward confirmed that Tigers returned from Salford with no fitness concerns – and he backed the decision to allow the game to go ahead, despite a snow-covered pitch and blizzard conditions.
“We’ve got no other injuries,” Millward said. “A lot of players have got skin off, but that was down to the ground.
“I was happy to play it, I didn’t want a catch-up game. I understand we had Sky TV there and we didn’t want to put that in jeopardy.
“Both teams had to put up with it, so there was no advantage to anyone.”
Millward described Tigers’ performance as “composed and professional” and he added: “All the little things, we were pretty strong on.
“It’s hard to assess it because of the conditions, but having said that, both teams’ handling was very good.
“They both tried to play, it wasn’t stick it up your jumper and go, there was plenty of movement. We made more than 1,500 metres, which is very high.”
Meanwhile, Tigers will feature in two Sky-televised Monday night fixtures this season, at Bradford Bulls on June 4 and away to Widnes Vikings on July 2, both kicking off at 8pm.
