And Castleford Tigers say their England academy forward Conor Fitzsimmons will spend the 2017 season on loan at Hunslet’s Kingstone Press League One rivals Workington Town.

Gibson, 26, is the son of former Batley, Leeds, Featherstone Rovers and Great Britain winger Carl Gibson.

He said: “I am really pleased I have signed at Hunslet.

“It’s a great club with big ambitions and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season.”

Meanwhile, Fitzsimmons, 18, from Cumbria, made his Super League debut this year and also featured for England under-19s on their summer tour to Australia.

Castleford’s head of youth Pete Riding said: “This is a great opportunity for Conor. It’s a perfect fit for him at this stage in his development to play first-team rugby on a consistent basis.

“Dave Clark is a very good coach and the environment he is creating at Workington is one we believe Conor will thrive in.

“He will complete his pre-season with us here at Castleford and then join up with Workington from February 1.”
