Huby baffled by the lack of Jungle fever

CASTLEFORD TIGERS' longest-serving player, Craig Huby, today admitted he cannot explain their poor home form.

The 22-20 defeat by Les Catalans Dragons was Tigers' seventh loss in nine engage Super League fixtures at the Jungle this year – and they needed extra-time to see off Co-op Championship visitors Halifax in the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

That's in stark contrast to an away record of six wins from eight matches and Huby conceded: "I don't know what it is.

"We take it game-by-game and we go into every game thinking we can win, but it's inconsistency.

"We have been playing pretty well away. Last year it was different, we couldn't win away, but we won a few at home.

"It's swings and roundabouts. Usually it's a fortress for us at home. We've always had a good crowd and the fans get behind us, but for some reason this year results aren't going our away.

"We've had a tough run in the last few weeks and we got back on track when we won at Huddersfield, so we were confident going into the Catalans game.

"We were unlucky with a few decisions, but it was up to us and we didn't deliver."

After being among the early pace-setters, Tigers have slipped to 10th in the table with nine games left.

Huby insisted: "At the start of the year, before we kicked a ball, the realistic target was top-eight.

"Everybody thought that was achievable and it is achievable. We made a good start, we've had a dip in form, but we've only been hammered once at home – all the others have been close.

"Sooner or later it's going to swing our way. We're working hard every day in training and it's only a matter of time before it comes good.

"The top-eight's still achievable and I think we can push on."

Meanwhile, Tigers have pledged to ban anyone identified as having thrown a bottle on the pitch at Saturday's game.

Chief executive Richard Wright said: "I spoke with many fans at the end of the game and they felt bitterly disappointed with some of the referee's decisions.

"However, there can be no justification in any circumstances for items to be thrown on to the pitch and if incidents like this do occur, it can only harm the club in the long term.

"We will now be meeting with our safety and security people to determine how best we can avoid a repetition of this incident.

"Furthermore, if we are able to identify anyone who threw a bottle, then we will ban them."
