Skipper Danny Orr believes Castleford Tigers’ squad is stronger than it was last season.

New boss Ian Millward has brought in five faces, with a similar number leaving.

on the eve of Cas’ opening Stobart Super League fixture, at Salford City Reds, Orr said: “I think it is possibly a little stronger.

“The players who have gone have now been replaced with similar sorts of players, I think the squad looks a bit bigger and also the young lads we had last year have now got an extra 12 months under their belt.

“Basil (Millward) is probably still looking and maybe trying to bring in a player or two when he can, but I am quite happy with the squad at the moment.”

Break

Orr added: “We’re ready, we have had a good pre-season, it has been a good break and we’ve had some really good training sessions.

“With the new staff who have come in and the new ideas they have put forward, the lads have bought into it and we are really looking forward to the year now.”

Tomorrow’s opponents Salford finished 11th in 2011, two places below Tigers, but Orr stressed: “It doesn’t matter who we are playing first, or whether it’s home or away.

“You’ve got to play everybody twice in a season, so it’s just a matter of us wanting to get off to a good start.

“We are aiming to get two points and we’re aiming to play well.

“Those things don’t always happen, but we know it’ll be a tough game against Salford. .

“It’s the first game at their new stadium so they’ll be fired up and also it’s the first game of the new season.

“That probably makes it a bit harder, but it is a game that we are looking forward to and hopefully we will be able to get the job done and win.”

New signings Josh Griffin, Lee Mitchell and Steve Nash are all included in Tigers’ initial 19-man squad for tomorrow.

The Tigers 19 is: Owen, Arundel, Dixon, Griffin, Chase, Orr, Emmitt, Clark, Ferres, Walker, Jones,

Milner, Hudson, Mitchell, Holmes, Massey, McGoldrick, Nash, Davies
