Catalan Dragons v Castleford Tigers: French trip ‘will boost Cas morale’

Loan signing Lee Mitchell reckons this weekend’s trip to Perpignan is just what Castleford Tigers need.

Tigers travelled to France yesterday to finalise preparations for tomorrow’s showdown with Catalan Dragons, which has been brought forward to a 3.30pm kick-off.

Having not had a pre-season camp, Mitchell reckons four days away together is ideal as Cas prepare for three of their toughest weeks of the season.

After tomorrow Cas face back-to-back home games against Challenge Cup holders Wigan Warriors and Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.

back-rower Mitchell said: “Going away together is always good, wherever you go.

“When you spend time in that team environment it builds bonds, whether with the person you are rooming with or in activities you do when you’re out there.

“It will be good, though I am not too sure how warm it will be. Their (Catalan’s) game was called off last weekend because of a frozen pitch so it’d be nicer if we were going mid-season when it’s a bit warmer, but it will be good for us and it’s a big game.”

Tigers will be looking to bounce back from a surprise home defeat to Bradford Bulls last Sunday.

Mitchell insisted: “I didn’t think we were too far away. It was just a couple of little errors.

“The weather had a big effect as well. We will definitely aim up in the next few weeks and if we play like we did against Salford, in slightly better conditions, we won’t go far wrong.

“It was just our finishing last week. Bulls defended really well but we could have been 20 points up at half-time.”

Mitchell joined Tigers in the off-season on a year-long loan from Warrington Wolves and has played in both their Stobart Super League games so far.

“It has been good,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to start the last two games and I’ve done 80 minutes in both, so I’ve had some good game time.”

Tigers’ team for tomorrow will be selected from the 17 who lost to Bradford, plus fit-again forward Steve Snitch and recent signing James Grehan.
