Castleford Tigers trio edge closer to a return

It could be the same again for Castleford Tigers when they face Catalan Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday.

New boss Ian Millward has named an unchanged team for Tigers’ opening two Stobart Super League fixtures and is hopeful the same players will be available this week.

None of Tigers’ long-term casualties are expected to make the trip to France, but Millward revealed that at least three are getting close to a return.

“There’s a few bumps and bruises and a few blokes saying that they are a bit sore, but I am really confident that we didn’t get any injuries,” said the coach of the 20-12 home defeat by Bradford Bulls two days ago.

Available

“We may only have to go a couple more weeks and then we may have Greg Millington, Paul Jackson and Steve Snitch available for selection.

“Craig Huby and Nick Youngquest are still a way away, but if we can get through the next two weeks without any injuries I think we’ve got some options going forward.”

Tigers are due to jet to France on Thursday, returning on Sunday.

They did not have a pre-season training camp this year and Millward reckons four days away together will benefit his side.

“It’ll be good getting away as a group,” he said. “I am looking forward to that.”

Dragons’ home game with Hull, scheduled for last Saturday, was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Tigers won’t know what conditions to expect until they arrive in France, but after playing on snow and mud in their opening two games Millward is already looking forward to the spring and firmer, faster pitches.

“I am not sure where my team is at the moment,” he said.

“I am a horse trainer who’s come into a stable full of new horses and I am trying to look at the best way to train them and to get them going.

“I do look at some parts of our game and think gee, we would look good on a dry track. Having said that, I think a lot of teams would like to get on a dry track.”
