Castleford Tigers: Tigers facing RFL probe after flare up

Castleford Tigers were today facing an RFL investigation into furious scenes after their controversial 22-20 engage Super League home loss to Les Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

A large crowd gathered outside the changing rooms at the end of the game, chanting threats and abuse at referee Ian Smith and his video assistant Phil Bentham.

The duo then had to be smuggled, via a back route, out of the ground, guarded by club stewards.

Bottles were hurled from the crowd and Catalans players were showered with beer on the pitch after the final hooter.

RFL spokesman Craig Spence said the governing body were aware of the incidents and were studying match commissioner Jim Smith's official report today.

The RFL also plan to speak to Tigers club officials.

Cas spokesman David Smart said: "We are well aware of the problems that occurred. It is something we will be giving some serious consideration to today."

Smith infuriated Cas fans by declining to refer two controversial Catalans tries to his video assistant, while two of Tigers' three touchdowns were handed on and they had two more ruled out by Bentham.
