australian full-back Luke Dorn’s hopes of returning to action for Castleford Tigers this week have been dashed.

Dorn was set to face Huddersfield Giants at the Jungle on Thursday, but is now set for more time on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

“It looks like he has torn his hamstring again,” coach Daryl Powell confirmed. “He has got a scan [today] and we’ll know more then, but it’s pretty tough news. He was just coming back and he was going to play this week, but he has re-done it. It is taking some time. It is pretty tough at the moment, we’re not getting much luck, unfortunately.”

Tigers were without a host of key players for last Saturday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie at Hull, but Powell is hopeful long-term casualty Denny Solomona could feature on Thursday. He suffered a knee injury in the First Utility Super League round three defeat at St Helens in February and was due to return against Catalans Dragons earlier this month, but had to pull out during the warm-up.

Thursday’s game is crucial for both clubs following Challenge Cup defeats last weekend. Giants are fourth in the table, two places and one point above Tigers and Powell is looking for a response this week after the 40-14 loss at KC Stadium.

“Obviously we’re disappointed,” said the coach. “It was a tough one, we didn’t really perform as well as we could have and we deserved to get beaten.”

Meanwhile, Tigers have re-signed teenage centre Kieran Gill from Salford Red Devils on a two-and-a-half-year deal. Gill, 19, had a spell on Tigers’ scholarship, but was released in 2012.
