CASTLEFORD TIGERS are set to confirm the signing of former Leeds Rhinos prop Ryan Bailey, writes PETER SMITH.
The six-time Grand Final winner joined Hull KR last autumn, but was released after making just one appearance.
Bailey, 31, is understood to have agreed a contract with Tigers until the end of the season.
Tigers coach Daryl Powell pulled no punches after his team were crushed 46-16 at Widnes Vikings yesterday.
Widnes scored eight tries to three as Tigers fell flat following back-to-back victories over Warrington Wolves and Hull KR.
Powell said:.“I thought we were really disappointing, right from the off.
“We came up against a team who clearly wanted to win the game more than we did.
“They have had a tough Easter and we’ve had a reasonably good one, but in terms of energy, application, desire and will to win, we were second-best across the board.
“Kevin Brown was superb for Widnes and across the board we lacked composure and intensity in our game.”
Powell said he will question his players’ mental approach and they way they prepared for the match.
“I could put it down to every single aspect of performance – I thought we got beat at everything,” he added.
Tigers were without Luke Gale (hamstring) and Frankie Mariano, after he rolled an ankle in training, as well as Justin Carney (dislocated elbow).
Disappointed Powell added: “They have both been playing really well and we were down to our last 17.
“We were a bit skinny, but that’s no excuse.
“We have got good players in there, they just didn’t perform.”
