Castleford Tigers’ Nathan Massey has turned down offers from overseas to sign a new contract with the club – that should also see the loose-forward earn a testimonial.
Massey has agreed a four-year extension to his deal at Wheldon Road that takes him through until the end of 2019.
He has amassed more than 100 games for Tigers and established himself as a mainstay in their pack.
The 26-year-old, tipped by colleagues to eventually play for England, said: “I’m over the moon to finally have this deal sorted and in the bag.
“There have been lots of rumours about me leaving the club but that has never crossed my mind.
“Despite having interest from here and overseas Cas is the place I want to be at.
“I’m extremely proud to play for this club and I’m sure in the next few years silverware will come our way. I’m excited at the prospect of the coming year and can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season.”
Massey joined Castleford at the age of 15 and rose through the youth ranks before making his first-team debut in 2007.
Head coach Daryl Powell said: “I’m delighted Nathan has extended his deal at the club. I think it is clear to see the way that he plays that he loves playing at Cas.
“His drive and determination as a player will be massive for us moving forward into next season and beyond.
“Nathan is hugely respected by everyone in the changing room and on the coaching staff and this deal reflects the high regard we have for him.”
