WINGER Denny Solomona’s second try in the dying seconds earned Castleford their fourth successive pre-season win in a 20-18 triumph over Widnes.
Solomona scored from Luke Gale’s crossfield kick to give Castleford a dramatic victory after Widnes had edged 18-16 ahead with Paddy Flynn’s second try three minutes from time.
Widnes went ahead with Flynn’s first score but the Tigers quickly replied when Nathan Massey scooped up a loose ball to send in Ben Roberts.
The Vikings regained the lead when Rhys Hanbury dummied his way over and although Castleford levelled when Solomona scored from Gale’s kick, Widnes led 14-10 at the break after Brown pounced on Cameron Phelps’ grubber kick to score.
The game swung back Castleford’s way five minutes into the second-half when Liam Finn finished a superb move involving Jordan Tansey and skipper Michael Shenton, who was having his first pre-season run-out.
Gale’s second goal edged the Tigers 16-14 ahead but Flynn’s late try then looked to have won it for the Vikings before Solomona’s last-gasp touchdown rescued the Tigers.
