EAST LEEDS boosted their hopes of staying in National Conference Division One with a crucial 22-12 victory over fellow strugglers Shaw Cross Sharks.

Easts – whose side included former professional Robert Roberts – are one point above the relegation zone thanks to a brace of tries by Jordan Normington, one each from Ryan Gaunt and Mark Greenwood and three Nathan Conroy goals. Former Hunslet Hawks hooker Matthew Tebb bagged a brace of tries for Shaw Cross.

A 34-24 defeat at high-flying Skirlaugh nudged Hunslet Warriors closer to relegation, but it was a much-improved performance. Darrell Forster was outstanding for Warriors, who travelled to Hull with only 16 players, including five under-18s. Dave Norton crossed twice, Luke Day and Gary McClelland also touched down and Forster kicked four goals.

After successive defeats, Milford Marlins revived their play-off push with a 34-16 win at Normanton Knights, after they had trailed 12-0.

Milford’s try scorers were Joe Ramsden, Matt Brocksom, man of the match Steve Bacon, Dave Warren and Ryan Oxtoby, who added five goals.

Oulton Raiders were beaten 44-20 by visitors Thatto Heath.

Greg Colbridge (2), Kieran Walpole and Adrian Holdsworth were Raiders’ try scorers and Walpole and Dom Flanagan kicked a goal each.

Thornhill Trojans confirmed a place in the Division Two play-offs with a 54-6 win at Stanningley, who are relegated.

Mindaugas Bendikas scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked a goal, Danny Ratcliffe crossed twice and Trojans’ other try scorers were Joss Ratcliffe, George Woodcock, Ben Kendall, George Stott and Scott Lee. Sean Cooper scored Stanningley’s try, converted by Niall Murphy.
