Division Two champions Hunslet Club Parkside saw off top-four first-division outfit Milford Marlins to book their place in the Conference Challenge Trophy final.
The derby clash finished 21-6 in the in-form Parkside’s favour.
Hunslet Club built up a reasonably healthy 16-6 half-time advantage, but Milford raised their game in the second half to restrict the hosts to just one more try.
Indeed, Parkside prop Jamie Fields felt the need for a field goal in the second half just to ease any jitters that may have been creeping into the home side.
Hunslet also had to manage being down to 12 men twice during the encounter as Danny Harrison was yellow-carded on the back of a ‘team punch’ offence while Lewis Buxton had his 10 minutes on the sidelines following a team warning.
Centre Dale Harris, Fields and pack man Kieran Murphy touched down for Hunslet Club Parkside, with full-back Luke O’Malley (2), half-back and home-side man of the match Andrew Hullock and Fields landing conversions.
Marlins prop Eddie Wilson bagged the visitors’ solitary touchdown, converted by scrum-half Martin Loveridge.
Hooker James Coates was in outstanding form for the visitors and took their man-of-the-match award, but his efforts on the night simply weren’t enough to deny Hunslet.
