AN ITALIAN job has robbed high-flying Hunslet Club Parkside of their leading try scorer ahead of tomorrow’s Yorkshire derby at home to Eastmoor Dragons.
Parkside are top of National Conference Division Three and aiming to extend their 100 per cent record to eight matches, but will have to do it without Omar Alrawi, who is on the British Asian Rugby Association’s tour of Italy.
Tom Saunders and Tom Sykes are unavailable and also dropping out from the team which beat Woolston last week is Jerome Malcolm, who has a calf injury.
James Farnsworth, Ben Thorpe, Carl Briggs and Kieran Murphy are all set for a call-up.
Parkside’s winter team presentation night will be held tomorrow, alongside a race night fund-raiser to support Luke Medley and Ben Thorpe, who have been selected to represent the Yorkshire Men’s League on a tour to Ukraine next month.
Hunslet Warriors are also involved in West Yorkshire derby action, at home to Normanton Knights. Johnny Dawson and Lloyd Templeton should feature after missing last week’s impressive win over Ince Rose Bridge due to work commitments, but Micky Lyons is unavailable and Chris Hartley remains on the injured list.
East Leeds could go top of the Premier Division table if they beat visitors West Hull and the teams above them – Wigan St Patrick’s and Lock Lane – both lose.
Easts are on a high after last week’s victory over Hull Dockers and are likely to be boosted by the return of influential duo Ben Walkin and Jordan Normington, but Jason Priestley is unavailable and Nathan West could miss the game due to a neck injury.
Oulton Raiders’ hopes of making an impact in the Premier Division have been hit by their inability to field a settled team, with a host of players ruled out through injury or unavailability.
Raiders showed what they are capable of when they pushed leaders Wigan St Pat’s close last week, but Andy Williamson, Dan Hardy, Clayton Stott, Matty Bullough, Craig Savage, Danny Macintosh, Mark Falkingham and Chris Hope have all been ruled out of the tough trip to Egremont Rangers.
Billy Kershaw has come out of retirement to help the team and Andi Tillett, James Cruickshank and Chris Knowles could return tomorrow. Raiders’ ‘A’ team are at home to York Acorn ‘A’ and Oulton’s women’s side visit Hunslet Ladies on Sunday. All tomorrow’s Conference fixtures are due to kick-off at 2.30pm.
