Oakwood Owls 5
Samba Kings Juniors 4
This U-15s Premier league match offered supporters a great end to end game, with lots of chances & a few twists in the tale.
Man of the match Owino earned the points in the final seconds, giving the Owls a maximum haul late on for the second week running!
The Owls pre-match team talk revolved around quick passing & starting out at a higher tempo, but the information somehow seemed to be left in the changing rooms as the Owls again began the game slowly. Early goal scoring chances arrived at both ends, before the Owls boys eventually got into a stride, hitting 2 quickfire goals to stun their highly rated opponents & put them fully in command. Captain Rodley & the skillful Temple did the damage early doors to give their side breathing space.
Samba Kings arrived full of confidence, after themselves being on a four match unbeaten run & they caused the Owls defence problems throughout the game, hitting the post twice in the first half. On 14 minutes they at last broke the Owls defence hearts, as parity was restored with 2 fine set piece finishes to make it 2-2.
Samba gained in confidence & some good touches & passing play again hurt our defence. Only a reflex fingertip save by debutant keeper Rawson kept the score level.
With time ticking away Oakwood somehow found a second breath, as substitute Owino entered the fray to add strength & determination to our now tired group.
Two training ground moves involving four players again saw them take the lead, as excellent work by defenders Kinghorn & Coldwell ended with spectacular volleyed finishes by Temple to make it 4 - 2 Owls with only minutes remaining.
The twist came in the final five minutes, as the Owls again capitulated in defence. A pass back was picked up by Rawson & the resultant free kick hit the back of the Owls net, before yet another keeper error offered the Samba boys a point with a dispatched penalty for 4 - 4.
Owino saved the day today though, collecting a Rodley pass in his own half & taking on the entire Samba team, before hitting an unstoppable left footed screamer to give the Owls full points in the final seconds again.
