Owls dish out footballing lesson
Oakwood Owls under-15s bounced back from cup competition heartache with comprehensive league victory.
The Owls played their second proper league match for points at Soccer City and came out 12-5 winners over bottom side Barca FC in the under-15s Premier league.
Joint man of the matches Kinghorn & captain Rodley bagged five between them and helped put a smile back on their sides faces after losing out in the Annual Youth service 5s cup final only hours two hours earlier. Walker & Owino also netted in this heavy victory.
The win puts the Owls into eighth place in the table & from here on they have a full squad available,as three players return from holiday to help bolster the squad. There will be fierce competition for places over the coming months.
Oakwood Owls manager Rod Christopher said: "These are the headaches that I thrive on as a manager. We're playing some good stuff, but i need to keep all of the lads keen by freshening things up a bit.
"We're looking to finish as high as possible & with such a strong squad at my disposal, we really should be ending this first season in the top 3 or 4 at soccer city. That would be a fantastic achievement in our first attempt at competetive league football & it would give us lots of confidence for next years campaign, which we will attack from the off."
He added: "Obviously we're delighted to have 3 points in the bag after just 2 matches, but the whole squad played well as a unit here & we are all smiling again after our cup final set back earlier! We now have six days off until training next week, which is plenty of time to recharge batteries.
"The boys know that I'll now only select soccer city league squads from those that commit fully & attend training, so it's up to them now to produce on the pitch & earn their shirts."
