Owls win seven goal thriller

Oakwood Owls under-15s played only their third ever Premiership five-a-side game against Soccer City's own academy side. Read match report here.

Owls 4 - 3 Soccer City Academy

The Owls lads started off slowly, giving a number of goals away after defensive errors & they struggled to string passes together, as the academy put on a brilliant show of football. The Owls were 3-1 behind after 12 minutes of this 25 minute game, but somehow found a few good patches of team play, which offered hope as the game ticked on.

Fantastic strikes by substitute Temple & captain Rodley got them back into it at 3-3 with only 5 minutes remaining

& from there on the Owls took control, as superior fitness & our excellent team work ethic helped turned the tide on our favour. With one minute remaining Temple won the day, finishing off a training ground move that involved the entire Owls team. It sent the boys home with maximum points for the second week running & this result puts them into 7th place in the table, with 10 games to go.

Owls manager Rod Christopher said: ''Today I saw a new & very different side to my group, which really impressed me. We seem to be getting stronger as the games come thick & fast, but we have now also added a certain steel to our last few performances. It's important to remember that almost every game at Soccer City is against proper junior club teams, so our recent good results should mean even more to us. We are a youth service provision, a bit like a youth club that enjoys football together, but we are working hard for each other on the pitch and it's bearing fruition for the group. No team will roll over for you here & all of them want to win, so to get any win is a fantastic acheivement when you put things into perspective''

He added: ''We now have 30 points more to play for & our aim is to finish as high as possible. I've learned from my own playing days that things can change so quickly, so don't count us out of actually winning this league yet! After all - football can be a funny old game & we've just beaten the centres own academy team. Anything is possible here & we are more than capable of claiming maximum points from all of our remaining games. If we can do that we will surely be in with a chance of winning this league, but if not, it will be a great stepping stone for the next campaign. If we can just keep winning,i'm sure the rest will take care of itself''

Owls squad v Soccer City Academy: Richardson, Kinghorn, Coldwell, Shaw, Rodley (Capt), Temple, Owino.
