Wimbledon: There's still much to do insists Roger Federer
Title favourite Roger Federer defeated big-serving Ivo Karlovic 6-3 7-5 7-6 (7/3) to reach his 21st consecutive grand slam semi-final yesterday.
The Swiss star took only four games to break the Croatian's serve for the first time in the tournament and was rarely troubled thereafter.
Federer will now face 31-year-old Tommy Haas, who kept his fairy-tale run going by knocking out fourth seed Novak Djokovic 7-5 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 6-3.
Five-times champion Federer, who will break the record he shares with Pete Sampras of 14 grand slam titles if he lifts the trophy on Sunday, said: "I'm happy with the way I'm playing.
"I have just won my quarters, so my mind has not started wondering yet. I'll prepare for a tough weekend ahead of me.
"It would be writing the history books of tennis but it's not there yet. It's still far away – many points, many serves, many forehands."
Andy Roddick booked a semi-final showdown with Andy Murray at Wimbledon as he won a five-set epic against Lleyton Hewitt.
Sixth seed Roddick needed three hours and 50 minutes to see off his Australian opponent, recording a 6-3 6-7 (10/12) 7-6 (7/1) 4-6 6-4 triumph on Court One.
Defeat ended a remarkable run at SW19 for unseeded Hewitt, who has now lost all three of his meetings with Roddick on grass.
"I'm super relieved just coming off the court and really really happy," Roddick said afterwards.
"I hadn't been in the grand slam picture much the last two years and now it's my second semi-final of the year so far so I'm thrilled."
Roddick also spoke of his admiration for Hewitt and the fight he put up throughout the clash, which was their 12th on the ATP Tour.
He said: "I think Lleyton might have hurt himself a little bit in that fourth set and it's testament to the type of player he is to have kept going and to have made it such a fight.
"There's a lot of respect there. We used to get into it a little bit when we were younger but I think we've definitely earned each other's respect."
The crowd were on the edge of their seats for much of the match as both players produced a mixture of winners and errors.
But it was Roddick who dug deepest to reach the last four and a meeting with world number three Murray tomorrow.
