Roundhay quick to stretch title advantage

Roundhay, who are bidding to retain their Barkston Ash League Division One title, have opened up a big gap between themselves and their title rivals.

Nearest challengers Bardsey, who have three matches in hand on the champions, are currently 12 points adrift.

Mike Kasher, Sue Welch, Neil Hamer, Charlotte Cheeseborough, Danny Beecham and Debbie Howarth are all members of Roundhay's latest push for the silverware.

In Division Three, Kirkstall, one of the league's founder teams, are hoping to maintain their present promotion drive.

Tim Clement, Nicola Walter, Matthew Swaine, along with skipper Stella Kwan, Richard Mcllan,and Liz Barker were all involved in the club's latest victory – a 76-32 win over Whitkirk D.

Meanwhile, the first of the Chapel Allerton club's grand slam events – the north Leeds club's competitions mirror the professional tournaments – has been decided.

The hard court title (Australian Open) was captured by tennis chairman Jesper Paul, who beat Jonathan Baylis 7-5, 6-4 in the final.

Phil Brindley is favourite for the 'French Open', which is currently being staged on the club's new artificial clay courts.

Gary Henderson, the man in charge of more than 250 juniors at the David Lloyd Centre at Moortown, has been celebrating his recent marriage to solicitor Lois Todd.
