Miller is Pannal master

Jamie Miller mastered Pannal for the second day running, tagging a five under par 67 to his first round 68 to win the Alvin Trophy as the top qualifier in the Yorkshire Amateur championship, finishing four shots clear of second placed Andy Jones, from Moortown, writes JOHN DRAKE.

In the first match-play round today Miller took on the aptly named Lee Pargetter, a fellow Fulford player who made a par at the final hole last night to grab the 32nd and last qualifying spot.

Morley 16-year-old Gareth Johnson, from Howley Hall, headed Miller on countback in Tuesday's first round then struggled in yesterday's second round but he battled manfully to qualify in 11th place.
