Guiseley glee for Buckingham
Holmfirth's Mark Buckingham won the fourth and final Complete Runner West Yorkshire Cross Country League race at Guiseley at the weekend.
It was a close race right up to the finishing straight as Leeds City's Martin Hilton had matched strides with Buckingham all the way.
In fact, Hilton tried to get clear at various points on the twisting, undulating and very muddy course, but Buckingham's stronger finish prevailed.
Winner of the first three races, Andrew Pearson (Longwood) was missing this time, but was the overall winner, the league being decided on the best three performances. However, 38-year- old Pearson was given the veterans award with the men's title going to Buckingham.
Bingley won the team race in Saturday's race and gained a narrow league win from Leeds City.
Becky Lambson (Skipton) won the women's race and took the overall league title but, at 18, she was given the junior award with the senior title going to yesterday's runner-up Katie Walshaw whose team, Holmfirth Harriers, won the team award.
