Oakwood Owls help spread the anti-racism message

Oakwood Owls will be helping to spread the Lets Kick Racism Out of Football message later this month. Click here to find out how you can get involved.

Oakwood Owls under 14 to under 17s football education group are set to host four events as part of Let's Kick Racism out of Football's One Week of Action events.

All of our events will take place at the Fearnville Pod & astro turf pitch where the club aims to involve as many different cultures as possible.

Former Bradford City defender Ces Podd has agreed to come along on the first session on Thursday, October 18 (6pm-8pm) when he will be in the firing line as Owls players & local young people will put a question & answer session to him.

Ces holds Braford City's club record for appearances & will talk openly about his personal experiences of racism in the game during his own playing days in the 70s & 80s.

The second event is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 19 (5.30pm-8.30pm) with a multicultural seven-a-side youth football tournament involving local youth club teams from Harehills, Chapeltown, Little London & Beeston.

Thursday, October 25 (6pm -8pm) sees the club host a penalty shoot out & Crossbar challenge competitions, followed by a group match.

And on Friday, October 26 (6.30pm-8.30pm) there will be the 7th annual Lads v Dads match.

Rod Christopher, of Oakwood Owls, said: "This will be an 11-a-side game involving dads, parents ,family members & local youth workers. Followed by an anti racism football quiz in the Fearnville pod, where KIO merchandise & small prizes can be won."
