North Leeds Cricket Club get on the ball for title challenge

North Leeds CC look well primed for a title tilt in 2008 – thanks in no small part to their potent bowling weaponry.

Scoring runs has never been a problem for the Roundhay-based men – who finished in mid-table last term – but bowling has been another thing entirely and the club sought to rectify matters in the close season.

And if the evidence of the first six weeks of the season is anything to go by, North Leeds – now second – may have found the right formula.

Victory at Kirkstall Educational on Saturday was their fourth in six this term, following on from polished displays against Pool, Bilton and Adel, to put them in good heart ahead of this weekend's mouth-watering home clash with table-topping Beckwithshaw.

Skipper Tim Cooper said: "We're fairly happy with things. We brought in quite a lot of new guys into the first-team squad, but we've gelled pretty well.

"Traditionally, North Leeds have always been a bit of a batting side. From our perspective, we thought that if our bowling line-up was a bit better, we'd be able to compete more.

"Our overseas man, Greg Kennedy, has bowled pretty well and we've much more (bowling) depth this season.

"The likes of Farhan Khan and Tom Atkinson have joined us from the Bradford League, but haven't really bowled yet.

"Nick Richardson has done really well, while our spinners have been in good form."
