North East Leeds U-11s were brought down to earth with a bump at the weekend. Read match report here.
Woodkirk Valley U-11s 6
North East Leeds U-11s 2
The team's run of wins came to an abrupt end on a day when quite simply half the team did not perform to the best of their ability.
Woodkirk Valley opened the scoring in the first minute with a great long distance effort.
North East Leeds tried to make a comeback however on 12 minutes Woodkirk were 2-0 up after a good individual goal from the ever threatening Woodkirk midfielder.
After several hand balls we were finally awarded a penalty on 15 minutes which Markel Henry placed coolly into the bottom corner of the net. We then piled on the pressure in search for an equaliser and were awarded a penalty after a shocking challenge.
Unfortunately for North East Leeds the ball missed the goal by inches. We continued to search for the equaliser but somehow went in 2-1 down at half time.
The next goal was to be a crucial point of the game and sadly for us Woodkirk scored not long after the whistle blew for the second half.
This contributed to our demise and Woodkirk dominated and scored another two minutes later.
Too many players' heads went down at this point and effectively the game was over. Declan Denison pulled a goal back giving a glimmer of hope however Woodkirk went on to score two more goals and could have had more.
As the final whistle blew the three points went to Woodkirk and rightly so.
We suffered our largest defeat of the season. In other games when we probably deserved a win it has been bitterly disappointing but this game we did not deserve to win.
We were extremely frustrated with the amount of players who did not contribute to the game and only a select few had to carry the rest of the team.
Due to recent comfortable results complacency without doubt has crept in and this also contributed to the loss and has hopefully brought players back down to earth.
Man-of-the-match went to Dom Roberto who consistently battled at right back and continued to work hard throughout the full game regardless of the score.
Squad: Trust Ncube, Dom Roberto, Billy Clarke, Stephen Carr, Michael Chukwu, Lawrence Roberts, Declan Denison, Josh Baggott (captain), Oliver Batley, Markel Henry, Aiden Yaffe, Macaulay Bennett, Ramiro Sturla, Taf Mumbanya.
