North East Leeds U-11s: Success at football gala
North East Leeds U-11s continued its remarkable season finishing runners-up in the Wigton Moor football gala.
The tournament included some extremely talented and established sides however the Blue Team overcame them and were finally beaten in the Final by Wortley, the champions of the top division and an extremely good side.
The usual 11-a-side squad was split into two teams, Blue and Red and whilst the Blues progressed the Reds were unfortunate to be placed in an extremely hard group and subsequently lost their four games.
The Blue's won three and drew two games to qualify for the Semi-Finals against Wigton Moor United A and were 1-0 down until Josh scored a long range thunderbolt with the last kick off the game to take the game to extra time.
After extra time the scores were still level so the game was to be decided on penalties with Jay being the hero saving the deciding penalty to win the shoot-out 5-3.
Then came the final and the players were totally exhausted and simply could not compete anymore, the heat had taken it out of them and we had no subs to provide any rest bite.
The final proved to be one game too many and Wortley simply passed the ball around us and ran out deserved winners, however we were absolutely delighted to get as far as we did and all the players from both teams should be extremely proud of their effort because we most certainly are.
The results:

Lawnswood YMCA – Drew 0-0
Wigton Moor Athletic – Won 2-0
