North East Leeds U-11s 7

Dudley Hill Rangers U-11s 0

Date: Sunday, October 28

Competition: Garforth Junior League Challenge Cup Round 2

The game was the club's first appearance in a cup competition and we firmly booked our place in the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup with another excellent win.

North Leeds took the lead as early as the fourth minute after a controversial goal which proved to create a hostile atmosphere from the Dudley Hill supporters and consequently on our players. The ball was thought to have crossed the byeline however a throw-in wasn't given and we carried on playing, subsequently scoring through Lawrence with a tidy finish.

This resulted in some unsavoury reactions from the Dudley Hill side however our players kept their cool and on 12 minutes we were 2-0 up through an excellent individual goal from Markel who took on several defenders before a powerful shot found the far corner of the goal.

We continued to press forward and really should have added more goals but for some good last ditch tackling and blocking from the Dudley Hill defence. Our third came two minutes before the break through an excellent passing move between Josh, Oliver and Aiden, resulting in Aiden persisting with his run and finishing excellently.

By now the game had calmed down and the players were told once more to concentrate on their game and not surrender their hard earned lead.

This message was adhered to and seven minutes into the second half we were 4-0 up after an excellent corner from Josh was taken on the half volley by Aiden and smashed into the top of the net. Soon after Josh found himself free on the left hand side and had time to pick a cross which bypassed everyone and found its way into the goal. Only two minutes later it was 6-0 after Markel ran down the left wing and put a great cross over to the back post allowing Oliver a close range goal which was well taken.

The seventh and final goal came on 52 minutes and we saved the best to last, Declan scoring a cracker from just in front of the centre circle with an amazing first time shot which found the top corner.

This was an excellent win today but the shine was taken off the win by the reaction of some supporters who seemed to think the referee had influenced the game which might be plausible had it finished 1-0, however we won the game comfortably and really should have had more goals.

We have been on the end of some appalling refereeing decisions in close games but have always acted in a sportsman like manner and accepted defeat. We were comfortable at the back and any threat from Dudley Hill was well handled by our back four and we were pleased with a clean sheet.

We are delighted to be in the next round of the cup and look forward to the draw being made and hopefully will be able to progress further in the competition.

This week's Man of the Match was awarded to Lawrence who persistently seems to score our first goal and was excellent today with good passing, excellent dribbling and worked hard down the left hand side.

There were a number of notable performances and everyone should be pleased with their contribution. Well done North East Leeds!
