North East Leeds U-11s edged out in seven goal thriller

North East Leeds U-11s were edged out by the odd goal in seven goal against Collingham in their latest league encounter.

North East Leeds U-11s 3

Collingham U-11s 4

Competition: Garforth Junior Football League Division 3

This result is one of which we are struggling to get our heads around. We out fought and out played a team who are top of the table and won every league game this season.

Mistakes cost us dearly and subsequently Collingham continued with

their 100 per cent record and we wish them luck for the rest of the season.

We worked unbelievably hard straight from the off and the possession must have been in the region of 80/20 in our favour but we couldn't make the pressure count and despite a few good chances half time came with a scoreline of 0-0.

We could ask no more of the players and simply instructed them to carry on as they were which they did however the second half brought far more goals!

Five minutes into the second half we took a deserved lead after Taff was fouled in the penalty box resulting in Markel stepping up and slotting home but the lead was short lived as within a few minutes Collingham equalised after a long throw wasn't dealt with and a Collingham player forced the ball over the line.

Within a further two minutes we unbelievably found ourselves 2-1 behind but the lads showed their character and work ethic to fight their way back into the game.

We scored what we thought was the equaliser on 42 minutes however the referee disallowed it saying Markel kicked the ball from the keeper's hand which simply wasn't the case, but we kept going and found our equaliser a minute later through Markel scoring his second.

Then on 45 minutes we regained the lead after an excellent run down the left by Markel who delivered a pin point cross for Josh to finish from close range.

We once more couldn't hold onto the lead and Collingham equalised on 50 minutes before taking the lead on 55 minutes. We looked for an equaliser but couldn't find it and we ended up somehow losing the game 4-3.

On several occasions this year mistakes have cost us which was the case today however the players hard work and character was challenged several times today and we rose to the challenge and restricted Collingham to only one clear cut chance which we were delighted with.

On a personal note I really felt for the lads today for that reason, the work rate and the standard of performance was outstanding and a neutral would have thought we were the team sitting at the top of the league but it wasn't to be.

We now know what we are capable of and know we should have won today which gives us an excellent base to work from for next season.

Man-of-the-match goes to Josh Baggott who won everything in midfield today and worked tirelessly, however special mention must go to Markel and Stephen who were outstanding also.

We now have a deserved break before our final game away at the other league run away team, Menston. Well done today lads, we can't fault you.

Squad: Trust Ncube, Dom Roberto, Billy Clarke, Lawrenece Roberts, Stephen Carr, Josh Baggott, Declan Denison, Taff Mumbanya, Oliver Batley, Markel Henry, Aiden Yaffe.
