North East Leeds U-11s 3

Woodkirk Valley U-11s 4

After totally dominating the game North East Leeds found themselves yet again on the wrong end of the result.

Lawrence Roberts opened the scoring after getting on the end of an excellent corner from captain Josh Baggott.

Moments later Woodkirk equalised after a defensive error which allowed the striker to finish well. The chances were limited in the first half but we dominated possession in the second half and we should have taken advantage of this.

On 40 minutes Josh Baggott made one of his trademark runs down the wing and put in a great cross which allowed an easy tap-in for Oliver Batley.

However within a few minutes we absolutely gifted Woodkirk with a goal, after some terrible defending allowed a tap-in to equalise.

North East Leeds continued to work and took the lead once more with a great free kick from Markel Henry.

They could have been 4-2 up after another excellent run from Josh Baggott who shot and hit the inside of the post. Had this gone in we would have surely gone on to win but again this wasn't our day!

The team gave Woodkirk another equaliser after more poor defending and allowing the ever threatening Woodkirk striker to take advantage and finish well.

At this stage we considered a point to be a disaster but we would have taken this if we knew what was coming next. Woodkirk took the lead on 57 minutes after more poor defending. We went for the equaliser and Markel Henry almost brought the scoreline to 4-4 but the Woodkirk keeper made an excellent save.

As the final whistle blew there was an air of disbelief amongst the fans and coaching staff as the score finished 4-3 to Woodkirk.

We must however give full credit to Woodkirk who persisted with the game, especially the striker who displayed some clinical finishing. In summary we need to be killing games off when we take the lead and concentrate and communicate at the back as week in week out individual errors are costing us three points.

We were unfortunate not to get more goals and there were a few controversial refereeing decisions but this does not detract from the fact we should have won this game.

Congratulations to Declan Denison whose tackling and effort was constant throughout the game and won him the man of the match award.

North East Leeds Squad: Trust Ncube, Macaulay Bennett, Stephen Carr, Ramiro Sturla, Dom Roberto, Oliver Batley, Josh Baggott(c), Declan Denison, Lawrence Roberts, Aiden Yaffe, Markel Henry.
