Nick Ham: Roundhay motorsport star chasing perfect finish

Roundhay's Nick Ham has been one of the star drivers in this season's Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, which attracts racing fans in the millions in the US.

Ham is vying for the championship in a four-way battle with fellow Speedsource and Brit driver, Robin Liddell, along with Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards of Banner Racing.

In what promises to be the most exciting conclusion to the series in years, Ham knows that he needs the perfect finish if he is to close the deficit on race leaders Collins and Edwards.

Ham said: "It's just going to take good, consistent finishes. We've got to put together a string of podium finishes. We've had a couple of bad-luck races and the other two leaders haven't."

Despite establishing himself as a star in American motor racing, winning the prestigious Rolex 24 race at Daytona earlier this year, Ham is still relatively unknown back home.

However, he hopes news of his recent exploits in the Grand-Am Rolex Series will inspire future Brit drivers to follow his move over to the States.

He added: "I think there are great opportunities for racing in this series and this country, if young drivers can develop a good relationship with manufacturers.

"Take Robin Liddell, for example. He raced in England and Europe for years and began to develop a good relationship with one of the key teams out here in the US. He's now made the switch and is doing very well."
