Leeds star Sam Tordoff is hoping it’s third time lucky in the British Touring Car Championship upon his switch to West Surrey Racing, admitting: “Now is the time for me to mount a championship challenge.”

Tordoff has had two solid years with MG but now joins the team responsible for helping Colin Turkington to last year’s drivers’ championship. Round one begins at Brands Hatch this weekend and 25-year-old Tordoff said: “I believe I am joining the best team on the grid. We start with a really great platform. The car is there and it’s just adapting it to my driving style.

“It might take a little bit of time to begin with but certainly we have aspirations of being right at the very front.”

“Now is the time for me to mount a championship challenge and I feel I’m now at the best place to do exactly that.”
