Methley Royals: Player of the year revealed
Tommy Skerrett has been named Methley Royals' player of the year for 2008/09.
The halfback was presented with his award by former Wakefield Trinity, Hull and Great Britain prop Trevor Skerrett – his uncle – at the club's annual bash at its Royal Oak base.

Skerrett, a lynchpin of the side throughout the campaign, had previously been recognised in a similar capacity by his former club Oulton Raiders.

Young winger Thomas Kaye, meanwhile, scooped two prizes after making a massive impact in his first season in Open Age Rugby League. The 17-year-old paceman picked up the Coaches' Player of the Year Award – selected by Terry Crosthwaite and Ernie Skerrett – and the Players' Player of the Year Award.
Crosthwaite was the Margaret Banham Clubman of the Year, having stepped forward magnificently following the stroke suffered by Head Coach Tony Handforth in early November.
Handforth is due to be back at the helm for the 2009/10 season and is to take charge of the side for the forthcoming Kippax Sevens.
