McCall: We deserved Cup win

BRADFORD CITY boss Stuart McCall hailed his side's shock 2-1 first round victory over League One side MK Dons and insisted his side are capable of playing at the same level.

He said: "I said to the lads, this is the level we want to be at next season so let's go and show we can play against players from League One and I think everyone done that today and it was a great result.

"I think with the depleted numbers we had and with MK Dons on a great run, that we were the underdogs but I couldn't ask for anymore from the players. It was a deserved win."

The League Two Bantams got off to a dream start when Jamaica winger Omar Daley gave them a second-minbute lead.

The City flier eased past Shaun Cummings and kept on running unchallenged before lashing the ball in the far bottom corner of the net.

Injury-hit City, without a host of players including leading scorer Peter Thorne, enjoyed the better of the first half exchanges but Leeds United loanee Jemal Johnson equalised just before half-time

Roberto Di Matteo's Dons came into the game more in the second period and pinned City back in their own half.

But with 10 minutes to go, Dons Miguel Llera brought down Michael Boulding when he was clean through.

To the shock of the crowd, he was only given a yellow card, but justice was served as skipper Graeme Lee blasted home a low free-kick from 30-yards to give City a famous win.
