Maximum haul is a must for Tadcaster
FORGET Rochdale's 42-year wait to escape League Two, Tadcaster Albion have won nothing since 1892 – the year they were formed. Nothing senior at least.
That could all end in four days' time and boss Paul Marshall says his players are "full of confidence" about landing the Northern Counties East League Division One crown.
Taddy host Yorkshire Amateur tomorrow and Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday knowing two victories would guarantee promotion and the Division One crown.
And Marshall says there are no nerves only confidence that the Brewers can seal the deal in the next four days and leave one out of fellow title challengers Brighouse Town and Leeds Carnegie extremely disappointed at not going up.
"They are full of confidence and they are ready to win both games and win the league," said Marshall.
"Taddy have never won anything senior in their history since 1892 so the target is there to win something.
"Everyone is excited around the place and the club is on a real high at the moment.
"But we know it's going to be tough, especially against Hemsworth on Tuesday night because they are one of the better teams in the league.
"Hopefully we have got enough to beat Yorkshire Amateurs but again you can't take anything for granted in this league because there have been some strange results all season."
Taddy have matters in their own hands, but Marshall is warning failure to pick up six points could mean his club missing out on promotion – let alone the league title.
Wins for Carnegie at fifth-placed Pontefract Collieries tomorrow and leaders Brighouse Town at home to Rossington Main would leave Taddy third on goal difference should they even pick up four points from their last two games.
The Brewers boss also admits his fans are unlikely to see former Leeds United manager Gary McAllister playing for his side after all, despite having reported his signature recently.
"Since the stuff went in the paper he hasn't answered his phone to me," said Marshall. "I don't think he'll be involved but I'll see him Sunday as we have got a semi-final of an over-45s game.
"If we win on Saturday I might ask him if he wants to get involved on Tuesday, but we'll see.
"We've got as good a chance to win the league as anybody I suppose and it's very exciting."
NCE Premier Division football could finally be on its way to The Park but Marshall has yet to even contemplate next season, joking he doesn't even know if new chairman Rob Northfield will keep him in charge!
"He hasn't told me what's going on yet so you never know," laughed Marshall."Hopefully, we'll carry on as normal as it's been a great success story.
"I just hope everyone comes down on Saturday and Tuesday because we need the support really."
In the Premier Division, any outside hopes fourth-placed Thackley have of promotion depend on securing a victory at Parkgate while champions Bridlington Town also host second-placed Armthorpe Welfare.
