Matthew Lister: Alwoodley canoeist wins bronze

Alwoodley's own Youth Olympic Champion Matt Lister won Bronze at the Canoe Slalom U-23 and Junior European Championships – adding another medal to his ever-growing collection.

The 17-year-old took third place in the Men's C2 (Canoe Double) class, alongside fellow Youth Olympic Champion and C2 partner, Rhys Davies.

It's the first medal for GB, in a Junior C2 class, since 1988.

The pair, who won Gold at the Australian Youth Olympics earlier this year, finished in 118.96, just 0.20 seconds behind Poland's Dariusz Chlebek and Patryk Brzezinski. Czech winners, Jonas Kasper and Marek Sindler won the Gold, with a time of 115.55.

It rounded off a successful Championship for the GB Junior team; both the Women's K1 (Kayak Single) and the Men's K1 teams also won Silver whilst, in the Men's C1 (Canoe Single) class, Tom Quinn and Adam Burgess both achieved personal bests, after finishing 5th and 9th, respectively.

The Canoe Slalom U-23 and Junior European Championships took place in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia on July 24 to July 26.
