Yarnbury had the slight advantage of a light breeze down the pitch at kick off and proceeded to take full advantage with high kicks bombarding the Selby 25 metre line and this immediately unsettled the East Yorkshire side.

Jason Avieson took seven minutes only to carve an opening and sprint 50 metres out wide on the left.
With the ever dependable Stephen Riley converting the extra's.
From another charge down the backs were quick up and winger Simon Threlfall crossed for an unconverted try.
Stand Off Ian Bartlett and inside centre Stephen Riley exploited the Selby hesitency under the high ball to gain attacking position on 25 metres for James Barrett playing at No8 rather than wing forward in the absence of Ian Moule making a determined run to crash over from a solid scrum. The pack for Yarnbury was a relevation as a unit and were taking the game to the bigger Selby forwards winning good scrum and line out ball with props Adam Pike and Richard Lister, leaner and fitter than last season ably assisting captain and hooker Al Bowden to take two strikes against the head.
No mean effort with a Selby side suitably ensconced longer than most sides in Yorkshire 1 and notorious for the prop forwards.
Stephen Riley charge down nearly resulted in another Yarnbury try but the centre touched down on the whitewash for another close call.On the stroke of half tmer Chris Quinn, the ex Ionians Stand Off kicked a penalty for Yarnbury going over the top in their eagerness to secure the ball.HT 19-3 and could have been more but for over exuberance in the final pass.Yarnbury completed their scoring immediately after half time with a good passing movement and Jason Avieson breaking tackles to score near the post and Stephen Riley converting.
At 26-3 to the home side the game should have been finished in Yarnbury's favour but this is Yorkshire League One and they are the strongest Junior sides in the county. From the 56 min Selby replied with a further 18 points, in a ten minute spell.
Firstly,a droopped pass by winger Vhris Flowers resulted in Selby winger Nick Firth running 60 metres for a touchdown in the corner. Then substitute centre veteran Andrew Bennet showing the ball and making the gapp for Selby Captain back row Rob Taylor to power over with Chris Quinn adding the conversion and Selby had the momentum particularly with a further two penalties converted by Chris Quinn set up a grandstand finish for the last 10 minutes.Yarnbury forwards took control again to close out the game to give Yarnbury a deserved first win in the higher league.
