Match report: Sandal 2nds v Yarnbury Hornets

Yarnbury's second string took centre stage this week with the senior side without a game for the holidays.

Last Tuesday The Hornets were defeated in The Aire Wharfe Cup by Roundhegians 1st XV 10-33 where stand off Adrian Hogg kicked and passed the horsforth side to death to run out winners by four to two tries.

For Saturday's game they had a stronger team with James Daffern and Wayne butterfield drafted back into the back row and Ian Maycock in the second row and his brother Graham back in the centre to strengthen the back line against a very strong and athletic Sandal second string who have lost only one game all season.

Yarnbury were down by 25 points in the first half to a strong and determined Sandal Team and re-grouped in the second half with tries from Elis Gomersall and Graham Maycock taking the lead on the second half try count but were pegged back in the final 15 minutes.

Yarnbury had a consolation try awarded after great forward pressure and captain Wayne Butterfield claimed the touchdown.
