Match report: Pocklington v Yarnbury RFC
Horsforth's Yarnbury RFC had one re-arranged league fixture to play with Pocklington the side who could finish immediately below them in fifth position if they managed a win.
Pocklington 55
Yarnbury 0
Competition: Yorkshire League 2
Yarnbury had sent 42 players and members on the annual tour to Somerset and Gloucester.
However, the Yorkshire RFU insisted the league game must proceed having given Pocklington dispensation to defer from the Easter weekend because of the club sevens.
Thus Yarnbury had to send 17 brave souls to stand up and be counted against a youthful and well organised Pocklington side.
The score certainly did not reflect the effort put in by the Horsforth side who took the game to Pocklington from the start with the backs under the tutelage of Gary Smith and Oliver Cashman in the centres tackled manfully in the first quarter to restrict Pocklington to one try through centre Nick Bennett wide out duly converting his own try.
Try as they would with breakaway pressure through their forwards in Ian Moule and Bruce Johnson Laird they lacked mobility with four props in the team and without any second rows.
Richard Lister and Todd Bainbridge working hard to get round the field and provide some beef in the scrums and lineouts.Pocklington scored two further tries close to half time to put an unfair reflection on the score.
In the second half the game had a predictable flow about it with good running from the Yarnbury backs in particular, Phil Davies at Stand Off and Will Davies on the right wing.
Rob Pound on the left also chased well and tried to make hard yards with the ball in hand.Aldo Trapanesi at flanker put himself about and tackled to a standstill but the Yarnbury team did not have the familiarity of a regular first team and shipped tries by forcing the final pass in an effort to get over the whitewash.
The fact that they did not is unfortunate for their determination and effort and the Pocklington Team were complimentary of their efforts at the final whistle.Nick Bennett outside centre for Pocklington scored 5 tries and 39 points in total.A stark reflection on the cup game there when Yarnbury were victorious in February 9-7.
Yarnbury need to re-group for the final week of the season to meet Malton and Norton in the third round of the Yorkshire Shield this week.
