The Royals, playing their first fixture out of their new base at the Rose & Crown, performed creditably under coach Tony Barik and but for a couple of indifferent spells could have notched a notable victory with a new-look side.

Lee Starbuck, at stand-off, was in typically ebullient mood and helped notch an early try for rampaging prop Gareth Grant-Mills which centre Sam Payne improved.

Casual defence, however, gave Companions the chance to hit back with unconverted tries for Gary Smith, Paul Ward and Scott Smith - but Methley showed their spirit by forcing their way back into the contest.

With veteran Barik prompting well at scrum-half from a strong platform established by hooker Reece Willshaw, prop Paul Farrar, second row pair Chris Gibson and Danny Pickering, and loose forward James Baxter, space was created for Starbuck to scamper over, Payne's conversion restoring parity.
But Bentley took a grip by the break, Andy Downie, Andy Smeaton and Andy Wingfield steaming over in the heat and Craig Whincop adding two goals for a daunting 28-12 interval lead.
The Royals, to their credit, hit back with tries by Willshaw and Starbuck, Payne tagging on a goal, as substitutes Matty Carriss-Wright, Carl Garman, Luke Pickering and Kyle McDermott made an impact. Threequarters Thomas Kaye, Danny Snowden and Richard Scott also impressed.
But the damage had been done and Bentley made certain of victory through further scores by Ward, Downie and Smeaton, two of which Whincop improved.
Methley are now preparing for the opening round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.
Queensbury, of Bradford, visit Willowbridge on Saturday, September 19, for the fixture, which is scheduled to kick off at 2pm.
