Calverley United U-9s travelled to nearby Apperley Bridge to take on Prospect Scorpions in their latest league encounter.

Calverley Yellows 2

A bright Spring day at Apperley Bridge and for some of the Calverley parents an away game that was nearer than a home game!

A bright start too for Prospect who pinned Calverley in their own half for most of the first five minutes.

In the sixth minute Calverley finally broke out and forced a corner without result.

The game ebbed and flowed with a goalmouth scramble at Prospect's end followed by corners to Calverley, Prospect and then Calverley again in quick succession.

A free kick to Prospect just outside the Calverley box failed to test the keeper and the after some stout defending by Harrison Marcus and a good save by Ethan Horne the first half was over.

Both sides came out more purposefully with an early corner to Calverley followed by a hard shot by Prospect which Calverley substitute keeper Alex Weeks was able to tip over the crossbar.

Calverley were now on top with Thomas Reynolds scoring in the 6th minute following neat approach play by George Taylor.

Prospect were not discouraged from seeking an equaliser despite more pressure from Calverley and the game was in the balance until Owen Bailey's goal in the 19th minute allowed Calverley to relax.

Calverley Blues 5

A shot by Danny Taylor in the first minute set the tone for the second game.

Neither side could claim ascendancy in the early stages, as play went end to end: Harris Thompson scored for Calverley in the sixth minute, and almost from the kick-off Prospect responded with a shot by Oliver Pearson that Calverley keeper Matthew Hodges could only watch as it flew over is head into the net!

Stalemate for the next ten minutes until a fluffed clearance by the Calverley keeper was rather unkindly returned to him by Keenan Hird via the back of the net. 2-1 to Prospect!

Half time couldn't come soon enough.

The second half started slowly with no real chances until Harris Thompson (Calverley's answer to Steven Gerrard) scored his second in the 8th minute.

2-2, but before we had chance to savour the relief, a goalmouth scramble and a goal to Max Weir turned relief to joy. 2-3 in Calverley's favour; Prospect were on the ropes!

And further goals from Danny Taylor and Louis Squires finished them off.
